The annual Relay For Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society will take place at Fayette County High School Friday from 4-11:30 p.m.
The event was changed from its traditional overnight format in an effort to allow more families to participate, organizers said.
The theme of this year’s event is “Cruisin’ For A Cure” and it will take place at the FCHS track facility.
One of the high points each year is the lighting of the Torch of Hope, which is planned to begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by a series of special laps at 7 p.m. including the poignant “Survivor’s Lap” featuring a large number of local cancer survivors
The luminary and memorial ceremony is slated for 9:30 p.m. as well-wishers and families will light luminaries in memory of those who died of cancer.
As usual, the Relay For Life has been planned as a fun event, and this year is no exception with a scavenger hunt, group dance, Zumba sessions and other events planned throughout the evening.
