Huie Bray has been in Fayette County most of his 87 years except for those when he was in the Navy in World War II.
When he returned in 1946 he felt that construction and real estate would be his future and he was right. The community honored him last week by dropping by to help him celebrate the past 65 years in business in Fayette County.
His volunteer service to the community includes overseeing the volunteer Emergency Medical Service in the mid-to-late 1970’s; volunteer county Fire Chief from 1974 to 1976; and Scoutmaster for Troop 71 for many years, earning its Silver Beaver award. He was named Fayette County Citizen of the Year in 1968.
He developed, built and sold several subdivisions in Fayetteville; and built the first and second homes in the “city” of Peachtree City. The Home Builders of Metropolitan Atlanta chose him as its “Home Builder of the Year” in 1973.
He was a member of the Fayette County Kiwanis for 50 years and a member of the Metro Fayette Kiwanis for the past nine years. He was awarded Kiwanis’ highest honor in 2003, the Hixson Award.
He and his wife, the former Beatrice Teate Bray of Fairburn, live in Brooks, and he still goes to the office in Fayetteville every day. They are the parents of Danny “Bo” Bray, deceased, and Patsy Gullett, who manages the business. There are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
