Award winning local author Victoria Wilcox will revisit the place where her story began when the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House Museum hosts a book signing today from 10 a.m. to noon. Wilcox was founding director of Fayetteville’s 1855 house museum, where she discovered the untold story of the young life of Western legend Doc Holliday, whose uncle was the original owner of the antebellum mansion. Wilcox’s work with the house restoration led to eighteen years of research and made her a nationally recognized expert and speaker on the life of Doc Holliday and inspired her novel trilogy. “Inheritance “was released in May by Knox Robinson Publishing, with book two of the saga “Gone West” coming May of 2014 and book three “The Last Decision” coming May of 2015. The three books cover the life of the Georgia born dentist-turned-gambler from his youth during the Civil War to the OK Corral gunfight in Arizona where he made his fame and his last days in the Colorado mountains. “Inheritance,” begins in 1862 in Fayetteville, and features scenes set in the historic Fayetteville Cemetery and the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House itself.
The museum will have copies of Inheritance available in the gift shop on the day of the signing. The book is also available at Omega Books in Peachtree City, at Barnes and Noble in Newnan, and at Amazon and other online retailers.

The Georgia Museum of Art will present “Furry, Fluffy, Felt Fun, a Just My Imagination” workshop at the Carnegie Library in Newnan at 10 a.m. The program is free and recommended for families with children ages 6 to 14. Grand Funk Railroad and the Spin Doctors play The Fred Amphitheater in Peachtree City at 8 p.m.
Generally acknowledged as one of the precursors to heavy metal, Grand Funk laid the groundwork for such bands as Foreigner, Journey, Van Halen and Bon Jovi with its signature hard driving sound; a combination of soulful vocals, muscular instrumentation and forceful pop melodies. The fact that Grand Funk’s legacy still looms large over the pop music landscape more than thirty years after its 1969 birth in Flint, Michigan is also a testament to the group’s influence and staying power. Mega-hits “We’re An American Band,” “I’m Your Captain/Closer To Home,” “Locomotion,” and “Some Kind Of Wonderful” still receive continuous airplay on Classic Rock radio.
