The Citizen is proud to feature exceptional student-athletes from across our community each week. Whether they’re leading their teams to victory, showing strong character on and off the field, or making steady progress in their sport, these athletes represent the very best of local youth. We celebrate their hard work, dedication, and leadership in schools, leagues, and clubs throughout Fayette and Coweta counties.

This week, we’re proud to feature these athletes:

East Coweta High School

Gabriella Gopie
Softball

Gabriella, a senior infielder and standout student leader, excels on and off the field and is committed to continuing her softball career at Dartmouth University.

Fayette County High School

Nigel McFarland
Football

ā€œNigel McFarland has continued to impress with his poise, decision-making, and leadership on the field. His ability to control the game, motivate teammates, and stay composed under pressure has been a major key to the team’s success this season.

Off the field, Nigel exemplifies what it means to be a true student-athlete. He continues to excel academically, maintaining Honor Roll status through hard work and discipline in the classroom.

Nigel’s leadership, both on and off the field, reflects the values of Fayette County High School—excellence, teamwork, and integrity. Keep shining, Nigel! Your future is bright!ā€

Fayette County High School

Leilani Boswell
Flag Football

Leilani is a hardworking and passionate player who always brings great energy to the team. She’s incredibly athletic and versatile—playing on both sides of the ball as a quarterback, receiver, up-back, and defensive back. No matter where she’s lined up, Leilani gives 100% effort and is always ready to step up when her team needs her. So far this season, she has 35/69 pass completions, 356 passing yards, 345 rushing yards, & 6 total touchdowns.

McIntosh High School

Ella Hinkle
Swimming

ā€œElla leads our team with humility, grace, and dedication to the team. She helps swimmers improve techniques during practice, and encourages them during competitions. She holds herself to high standards, expecting to improve every time she hits the water. She is a joy to coach!ā€ – Coach Neeley

Starr’s Mill High School

Megan Holmes
Swimming

Megan had been out of the pool for two weeks due to ear infections but dominated at our first meet of the season on October 24. She swam two individual state qualifying times at our first meet (50 free and 100 fly) and swam on the 200 medley relay that qualified for state. She is a leader on the team and works hard at practice, supports and encourages others.

Trinity Christian School

Bella Goode
Flag Football

Bella is a multi-sport athlete that has played Flag Football for several years, but for her senior year she changed positions over to the offensive side of the ball and now she leads the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. She is a solid student academically that is excelling in a schedule filled with multiple AP classes. She’s a great leader in the community and even volunteers as an assistant athletic trainer when she’s not playing flag football. Bella would make a great selection for the Athlete of the week.

Whitewater High School

Kolby Nordick
Swimming

Kolby has quickly made an impression in just the first week of swim season. As a first-year high school swimmer, his dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to learn have stood out to coaches and teammates alike. He listens intently, applies feedback immediately, and consistently gives 100% effort in every set. Kolby’s drive to improve and his coachable mindset make him a strong example of what it means to be a Wildcat athlete. With his focus and work ethic, this season is sure to be one filled with tremendous growth and success.
