Mountain Lion makeover: Sara Harp Minter Elem. unveils revamped mascot, logo

It’s a new year and a new era at Sara Harp Minter Elementary, and the Mountain Lions are eager to ring it in with a refreshed brand.

When she became the school’s principal, Dr. Stacie Coppola wanted her students to have a mascot they can call their own. The rebrand, designed by the public relations department for Fayette County Public Schools combined with Coppola’s vision, puts a fresh face on Blaze the Mountain Lion, the school’s mascot.

The new Blaze was officially unveiled and dedicated at the school’s 5th grade promotion ceremony. Leading up to the big day, Coppola surveyed students on what it means to have a school mascot.

Number one, they said that Mountain Lions represent strength and the power of leadership, and you should always be yourself and not let anyone stand in the way of your success. Next, they pointed to connection as Blaze unites the school and includes everyone, with an encouragement to get involved in their school community. Lastly, it symbolizes bravery as Mountain Lions are fearless and stand strong in the face of a challenge, and they know they are equipped to persevere.

“I am impressed by how your thinking transcends to guidance for the years to come in middle school,” Coppola said to the departing 5th graders. “The students before me are wise beyond their years. There is a lot to be said for being a Mountain Lion! I am confident that each and every one of you will be a success.”
