A High School Chess Team from Konos Academy in Tyrone took first place honors at the Georgia Association of Private & Parochial Schools (GAPPS) State Chess Championship on February 9. Led by Coach Chris Heekin, the team captured the top spot after winning the Regional Competition on February 3.

Konos Academy also had two other chess teams advance to state competition. An
additional High School Team, as well as an Elementary Team, garnered Regional honors
and moved to the state level. Each team performed valiantly.

Konos Academy is a hybrid accredited private school that serves homeschool families. In
addition to offering a classical educational curriculum, the academy also offers activities
and sports.
