Evergreen Church in Peachtree City recently was honored to receive a Cameroon Gong, which is highly regarded in the Cameroonian culture.

The John Retreat Center Cameroon Association (JRCCA), which is a ministry partner of Evergreen Church, celebrated this gift on Jan. 1 with a special performance/demonstration of the gong during  worship service.

The purpose of the gong is to call the people of God to church on Sundays.

The gong is rung three times: first time is a wake up call; the second ring is a notification to head to church; the third time is to let the people know church is beginning.

The JRCCA is a non-for-profit organization in Cameroon, Africa, with a support team located in Peachtree City.

The main goal of the organization is to sustain current development projects, assist with alleviating poverty, promoting healthcare and healthy living, fostering literacy, and improving education. To learn more, visit jrcca.org.

JRCCA will also host its community event, Light of Cameroon, again on March 25 at Evergreen Church,  400 Windgate Rd., Peachtree City.
