Resource fair scheduled for students with disabilities

A Community Connections and Resource Fair for students with disabilities is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 18, 6-9 p.m. at the LaFayette Educational Center, Building D, 205 LaFayette Avenue in Fayetteville. The event is free and open to the public. It is designed for families of students with disabilities, school age to adult.

Sponsored by the Fayette County School System’s Exceptional Children’s Department and ExceptionalOPS, the fair will feature vendors that offer services in the areas of financial, legal recreation, respite, adult care, and tutoring. Representatives from various organizations will be on hand to discuss their services and answer questions.

There will also be an opening session from 6:30-7 p.m. featuring on overview of services for students with disabilities available through Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation. The organization provides services to both general curriculum and adapted curriculum students. They include assessments for employment, payment for Certified Comprehensive Transition programs, transportation to work sites or training programs, career assessment and planning, and short-term supported employment.  

Two breakout sessions will feature information about the Roosevelt House in Warm Springs, and the Georgia Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Consortium. The breakouts will be repeated from 7:10-8 p.m. and 8:05-8:55 p.m.
