The Heritage Community Foundation presented a grant to Brenda Simms, director of operations, and Rebecca Watson, warehouse manager, of United Food Force, Inc. May 9.

The $5,000 grant will used by United Food Force to purchase two new Portacool 36-inch water-cooled fans and one new Carolina Handling electric pallet truck. As summer approaches and the weather warms up outside, temperatures inside United Food Force’s warehouse can exceed 100 degrees. The fans will provide a welcome relief from the heat and the pallet truck will help ease the backbreaking efforts of the volunteers as they move pounds and pounds of food each day.

United Food Force, Inc. is a nonprofit hunger relief organization located in McDonough. Its mission is to fight hunger through united forces and partnerships.

United Food Force was formed in 2012 to aid underprivileged families and combat hunger in its local communities. Its passion is to provide nutritional food products and other resources that will sustain and enhance the quality of life for all recipients. It is currently serving more than 300 nonprofit organizations weekly by providing food products and other household goods for community outreach programs, shelters, and food pantries.

The United Food Force staff estimates that they are able to reach 40,000 individuals per month and that approximately one million pounds of food and other household products are moved through its 14,000 square foot warehouse each month.
