After 18 months of research, planning, community surveys and committee meetings, the Fayette Visioning Initiative hosted its first summit to present its successes thus far and the plans for the future.
The Dec. 11 meeting at the Aberdeen Conference Center (formerly Dolce Atlanta-Peachtree) was attended by about 150 people. The chairs of the four committees (Education, Community, Economy & Place) presented their three goals for the next year, as well as a success story from 2015.
Kim Schnoes, Certified Financial Planner with the Peachtree Planning Corporation, is the Chair of the Education Committee and described the goals of the committee as including creating a K-12 education system that is a world-class asset.
Mike Stachura, Pastor of Grace Evngelical Church in Fayetteville and the Chair of the Community Committee, and laid out a vision of leadership opportunities and civic engagement for all Fayette County citizens, regardless of age, gender or race.
Zaheer Faruqi, President of Aventure Aviation in Peachtree City, presented the goals for the Economy Committee as the Vice-Chair and stressed the importance of supporting small business and entrepreneurial growth, as well as developing a sustainable film and entertainment cluster.
Vickie Butler, Chair of the Place Committee and a Realtor with Keller Williams, presented the goals of the Place Committee in which quality of life, housing for all ages and lifestyles and expanded transportation and mobility options would be key.
As Larris Marks, Board Chair of the Fayette Visioning Initiative, explained, “Today, we are ‘Celebrating the Present; Embracing the Future’ and we are so glad you are here as we rollout some of the great work being accomplished to shape the future of the Fayette County community.”
