The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Coweta County is set for Friday, May 1, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. midnight at the Coweta County Fairgrounds, 275 Pine Road in Newnan.
The public is invited to join hundreds of volunteers and participants at this community event to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost to the disease, and take action to finish the fight against cancer.
The opening ceremony, which includes a special Survivors and Caregivers Lap, will happen at 6:15 p.m. A Luminaria Ceremony to honor cancer survivors and remember those lost to cancer will take place at 9 p.m. The closing ceremony will be at 11:45 p.m.
The Relay For Life movement celebrates people who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost, and takes action to finish the fight once and for all. Events are community-based activities where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times and participates in fundraising in the months leading up to the event. Funds raised through Relay For Life events support the American Cancer Society.
