Organizers of the Fayette County High School Distinguished Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony are changing the traditional spring date to Saturday, Oct. 24.
The names of the 2015 inductees will be announced at half time of the Whitewater vs. Fayette County football game on Friday night, Oct. 23.
Previously, the ceremonies were held in early March, but planners believe the new dates will add to the excitement of the experience for inductees and also increase visibility of the recognition.
The induction ceremony and banquet in October will begin at 6 p.m. in the Fayette County High School lunchroom at 1 Tiger Trail in Fayetteville
FCHS has been serving Fayetteville and Fayette County since 1925. The Hall of Fame was established in 1999 to honor distinguished alumni for both athletic and non-athletic accomplishments.
Since its creation, the Hall of Fame has inducted 124 members, including 79 athletic and 45 non-athletic members. In recognition of each class, the Fayetteville mayor designates the date of the induction ceremony and banquet as “Fayette County High School Distinguished Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame Day.”
As the October date nears, tickets will be sold at the school and at Fayette Sporting Goods on GA Highway 85 north.
Nominations for new inductees are still being accepted and can be sent to Principal Dan Lane at the school.
