A Peachtree City teacher has been named as the 2015 State Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year for middle school teachers.

Holly Trudgeon, who teaches gifted social studies at J.C. Booth Middle School, was honored by the state Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and will receive her award on Jan. 31 in Macon at the VFW State Convention.

State nominees are selected from teacher of the year winners at the local level and Trudgeon was chosen as the award winner for VFW Post 9949 in Peachtree City. As a state winner, she is now a nominee for the national competition. The national award is presented in March.

The VFW Teacher of the Year award contest recognizes exceptional teachers for their outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students. Each year the Georgia VFW selects an elementary, middle, and high school teacher to receive the award.
