Cold, heavy rains of 2 to 4 inches are forecast for Fayette and Coweta counties from now until after dark Christmas Eve, with the potential for severe weather, including tornadoes Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS Forecast Office in Peachtree City issued a flash flood watch through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

“A strong cold front will move through Georgia on Wednesday. Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected ahead of the front. Some of these storms could be severe with damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and heavy rain. The best risk for severe storms on Wednesday will be along and ahead of the cold front that will move into western Georgia Wednesday morning and into eastern Georgia by Wednesday afternoon,” the NWS said in a special weather statement.
