To meet the needs of a growing number of local residents who no longer do such arcane things as writing checks, putting them in stamped envelopes and placing them in the mailbox, the Fayette County Water System is implementing a new system that will make paying the water bill a little bit easier in the future.
County water customers can now pay their bills online, without using a shred of paper or a single stamp. Not only that, they can elect to not even have paper bills mailed to their homes in the first place.
Water bills can be paid instantly using a credit card or electronic check via a secure Internet connection.
As with many online accounts, the system also allows customers to review all of their account information – current balance, payment history, water consumption history – whenever they like. A variety of service requests can also be made through the new online system, according to county officials.
To use the new self-service system, a customer must register and create a user account at https://fayette.munisselfservice.com/citizens. Once that is done, water users are able to access their water and stormwater billing information from any location at any time of the day.
Water customers who want to receive their bills via email can do so by contacting the Water System staff at water@fayettecountyga.gov Include your customer name, account number and email address. After you sign up for e-bill, your next bill will be delivered to your email inbox and the mailed paper bills will cease.
This is part of a year-long effort by county leaders to improve customer service and water quality, according to a recent statement.
“We continue to make significant customer service enhancements in our water system,” said County Manager Steve Rapson. “Utilizing new technology, to provide customer-focused improvements that enable our customers the ability to review water consumption and billing information helps us to become more efficient and improve overall customer service. We’re committed to enhancing the level of service we provide to our customers, and we’re excited for the opportunity to share these continued improvements with our customers.”

A flyer regarding these improvements will sent in upcoming water bills.
