A man in north Fayette County was robbed of his cell phone and wallet at gunpoint and then pistol-whipped in the early morning hours of Aug. 18.
Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said the victim was talking on his cell phone outside a Woodside Drive residence near Milam Road at approximately 1 a.m. Aug. 18 when he was approached by a sliver Nissan Maxima.
Babb said a black male approximately 6’0”-6’2” and weighing approximately 160 pounds exited the vehicle carrying a handgun.
The victim saw the handgun and began running, but soon stopped for fear that he would be shot, Babb said.
The suspect approached the man and fired a round into the ground and demanded the man’s cell phone and wallet, said Babb. The victim gave up the wallet and cell phone and was subsequently pistol-whipped in the face, Babb said.
Babb said the suspect returned to the vehicle and fired a shot into the air as the car left the area traveling north on Woodside Drive toward Milam Road.
