One of the projects undertaken by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is aimed at lending a hand to needy kids as school begins. The recipients of backpacks and school supplies this year are students at Inman Elementary School.
Sheriff Barry Babb said the office for the third consecutive year has continued its “Shop with a Sheriff” program that provides backpacks and school supplies to needy children in Fayette County.
“Thanks to the generosity of the local community, Shop with a Sheriff was able to purchase 50 high-quality backpacks filled with supplies for the upcoming school year,” Babb said. “This year, the packs will be donated to Inman Elementary School.”
Babb said the backpacks and supplies will be distributed by a school counselor to those students most in need.
A different school is designated each year as the recipient of the Shop with a Sheriff program.
Shop with a Sheriff is a registered non-profit in its eighth year of operation in Fayette County. The backpacks and school supplies are available thanks to the generosity of numerous businesses and individuals, Babb said.
In addition to the back-to-school program, Shop with a Sheriff has an established annual tradition of taking a special group of children shopping for a Christmas they might not otherwise have.
