Records fall at state track meet

The Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats broke three records on their way to a second-place finish in the A-Private classification of the state boys track meet in Jefferson last weekend.

Christian Coleman won individual state titles in the 100-meter dash (10.38) and 200-meter dash (21.10), with both of those times setting new A state meet records.

Another meet record was broken by the Bobcats’ 4×100-meter relay team of Coleman, Lawrence Bryant-Tillman, Delfayeo Matthews and Jordan Thomas (41.88).

The Bobcats finished fifth in the 4×400-meter relay and closed out the meet with 63 points, second to Athens Christian which scored 119.

Landmark was 12th as a team, as Stockton McGuire finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. Joe Humphries came in eighth in the 800-meter run.

In AAAA competition, Sandy Creek took home a state title in the 4×100-meter relay (41.27) behind Jared Stanley, Eric Swinney, Korey Banks and Marvin Hubbard. The team finished ninth with 25 points. Hubbard was second in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash.

Taylor Huntley of McIntosh is the AAAAA state champion in the 800-meter run (1:55.16). James Adams of Starr’s Mill finished fifth in the same race, while Jonathon Womack of Whitewater came in fifth in the 400-meter dash.
