Smoke reports were coming in late Friday afternoon from across Fayette County. County public safety officials said the smoke is entering the county from a controlled burn in Meriwether County.
Fayette Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Pete Nelms at 6:45 p.m. said winds from a controlled burn in Meriwether County are carrying smoke into the Fayette County area. The 911 center is experiencing a number of smoke-related calls, with some residents believing the smoke is perhaps from a nearby fire.
Nelms said smoke from the controlled burn is likely to continue making its way into Fayette County through Friday night and into Saturday.
