Robert J. Burch Elementary will be having its fourth annual Burch Bear Tracks today at 8 a.m. and includes Tot Trot, Mile Fun Run, and a 5K race. The primary goal for this event is to promote health and wellness through fitness as well as raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their effort to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The secondary goal is to fund Burch’s running club in which hundreds of students participate. Entry fee is $15 per participant; registration forms can be picked up at Burch Elementary or accessed online at www.burchbears.org.

To help the community get active and have better access to physicians, Piedmont Fayette Hospital is piloting a health and group fitness program called Walk with a Doc. The first program is today from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Drake Field, 155 Willowbend Road in Peachtree City with Karen Harris-Moore, M.D., a family medicine and primary care physician with Piedmont Physicians at Peachtree City.  Onsite registration opens at 8 a.m.  For more information or to register for Walk with a Doc, visit www.piedmont.org (search classes and events) or call 877-527-3712. An AARP Drivers Safety Class will be held today at the Goodwill Service Center located at 228 Bullsboro Dr. in Newnan.  The class will teach defensive driving techniques and may save you $$$ on your car insurance!!!. Step Into Spring  a luncheon and fashion show is today at the Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City. The show is being held to raise awareness and funding for the Youth Advisory Board for Family Patterns Matter.  Join us in stepping into spring with new fashions by Ann Taylor and the Loft. Hosted by Family Patterns Matter, money raised will go to the programs designed by the youth advisory board to  address issues of bullying, drug use, and low self-worth plaguing their peers. Today at 12:30 p.m., the “Terrific Turtles” program will continue in the lower level of the Peachtree City Library. The program includes live turtles, a live videoconference with the Jekyll Island Sea Turtle Center, and live experts who “talk turtle.” Attendance is limited to 50 people, grades 4—12. The Sixth Annual Tiger Run Car Show is today at Fayette County High School Tiger Stadium. The event is open to the public from noon to 3:30 p.m. and offers door prizes, concessions, and other activities.  Admission is free. Friends of the Fayette County Public Library cordially invite members and friends to its annual meeting today. It will be at 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Library on Heritage Park Way, Fayetteville.

“Last Will and Embezzlement” starring Mickey Rooney will be shown  at 6 p.m. at NCG Theater at 55 Fischer Road, Sharpsburg. The film is a documentary on elder abuse giving first-hand accounts from real life victims and is intended to help the community detect, report and prevent elder abuse. Following the film, there will be a panel of experts to lead a discussion. Admission is free. Griffin Choral Arts will present “A Mother’s Tears” at two performances: on March 28 and March 29. Both performances will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Griffin Auditorium.  
This presentation features Karl Jenkins’ Stabat Mater performed with a professional orchestra and with world-premiere choreography by Mitch Flanders and the Griffin Ballet Theatre.

Master showman Harold Hill is in town, and he’s got “76 trombones” in tow. Based on the timeless Broadway classic,the show adapts this musical for young performers. The result is a bold, brassy show that will have the whole town talking.

The sights and sounds of The Greatest Generation will come alive when the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing hosts the eleventh annual “WWII Heritage Days” April 26-27. The history festival will be held at The Historical Airpower Facility, Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field in Peachtree City from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days.The weekend will again feature historic aircraft, antique cars, vintage military vehicles, guest speakers, education displays, demonstrations by reenactors portraying Allied and Axis troops, and activities for school age kids.  Highlights include an opening ceremony recognizing local WWII veterans and a 1940’s hangar dance.
The theme of the 2014 opening ceremony, Honoring The Women of The Greatest Generation, will pay tribute to women who served in the military and on the Home Front.  Activities begin at 9:30am with a patriotic music program performed by Bombshells United. Suggested donation for “WWII Heritage Days” is $5, Children 5 and under free.  “WWII Heritage Days” will be held rain or shine. Please no pets.
