Multiple wrecks continue to be reported countywide as icy road conditions will only worsen overnight. Just after 8 p.m. Ga. Highway 314 south of Kenwood Road and Ga. highway 54 west of Gingercake road were shut down due to icy conditions. Also cars had trouble getting up some hills in Peachtree City including most recently on Crosstown road between the Braelinn Village shopping center and Peachtree Parkway.
The commute home was bad for many including Fayetteville students whose buses were delayed due to ice and traffic conditions. It was so bad in one spot this evening that even a wrecker got stuck. On occasion a law enforcement vehicle has also become embroiled in the snowy muck.
Advice from emergency officials bears repeating: stay off the roads. In addition to inconveniencing others, wiped-out motorist are also putting a big strain on public safety units.
Crews across the county and it’s cities have been working as fast as they can to spread sand on trouble spots on the road but it’s impossible to keep up with them all.
At 12:42 p.m. today police shut down northbound traffic on Peachtree Parkway from Walt Banks Road. Public works crews are expected to go spread sand in an effort to get the road passable for traffic.
If you have to hit the road, use extreme caution particularly on bridges and overpasses, and to drive slowly and leave plenty of room between vehicles.
