Sixteen Fayette County churches will send hundreds of volunteers into the community Oct. 6 on “Unite!” Saturday. Some churches have scheduled events on Friday, too.

Dubbed “Compassion in Action,” the churches will work on a wide variety of projects, some accomplished by churches individually, some done in connection with other congregations.

This is the third year for “Unite!” in Fayette county. Some agencies benefitting from the work are Christian City, Covenant House, Square Foot Ministries, Fayette Samaritans, Rescue Cat Shelter, and Southwest Christian Care.

Golf cart paths will be cleaned of trash, documents will be shredded at no cost, and yard work will be done under the coordination of Fayette County Senior Services. In addition, a Resume Assistance workshop will be offered at PTC United Methodist, and a Give-and-Take Free Exchange Mart at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran will include clothing and household goods. Both will begin at 9 a.m.
