The stars will be shining bright in Tyrone this Friday and Saturday night, and it is not just because of the beautiful, crisp fall weather. The Legacy Theatre, South Atlanta’s premiere professional theatre, will perform their Audience Choice Cabaret this weekend, bringing to its stage some of Atlanta’s most talented singers. The cabaret is entitled “Audience Choice” because all of the songs were chosen by ballot during this summer’s production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The Legacy tallied hundreds of ballots, and the musical theatre standards audiences hear this weekend will be the songs for which the patrons voted. The most exciting aspect of the two-night event is not the wide variety of music audiences will hear, but the selection of talented musicians who have chosen to be a part of the cabaret.
Chase Peacock jump-started his professional career at the Legacy in 2007 as Troy Bolton in their smash hit, “High School Musical.” Since that time, he has gone on to perform the role of Troy on Disney’s national tour as well as at the Tony Award-winning Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey. Peacock made his Broadway debut in the rock musical “American Idiot” and performed on the Grammy Awards and Tony Awards alongside the writers of the show, Green Day. This is Peacock’s first time on the Legacy stage since 2007 and the owners are so excited to see him return to his roots.
“We knew Chase was going to be a huge talent the minute he walked into our audition for ‘High School Musical’,” said Executive Producer, Bethany Smith. “If there’s anyone we know who has the ‘it’ factor producers and directors talk about, it’s him. We were so excited when he agreed to come back and perform for this special event.”
Peacock is not the only one returning from to the Legacy after a too-long hiatus. Audience favorite, Melissa Cartwright, will be find her way back to Tyrone, after she and her family moved to Virginia after 2011’s “The Marvelous Wonderettes.” She was also a cast member of the Legacy’s inaugural show, “A Christmas Survival Guide.” Patrons of the Legacy will also remember Melissa as Dorothy in its version of “The Wizard of Oz” as well as a featured vocalist in their production of the Frank Sinatra tribute, “My Way.”
In addition the cast will also include two highly sought after vocalists throughout professional theaters in Atlanta, Courtney Godwin and Charlie Bradshaw. Courtney is no stranger to Legacy audiences having performed in its best selling Christmas production, “The Andrews Sisters: Christmas of Swing” as Patty Andrews, as well as its productions of “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” “Spelling Bee,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Baby,” and “High School Musical 1 & 2.” Charlie Bradshaw’s soaring tenor voice was heard in “My Way” as well as “Spelling Bee.” He will also be performing the role of Franklin Hart Jr. in their upcoming production of “9 to 5: The Musical.”
Rounding out the cast are the Legacy’s owners Bethany Hayes Smith and Mark Smith, who too seldom get the chance to perform on their own stage, let alone together! The performers will be accompanied by Becky Clark on keys and CJ Johnson on bass, both of whom are veteran musicians at Legacy and across the region.
