A Fayetteville woman was killed Sept. 15 in a single vehicle after she lost control of her car on Ga. Highway 92 in north Fayette County.
Maj. Bryan Woodie with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said 37 year-old Carrie W. Dunn died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
Woodie said the crash occurred on Sept. 15 at approximately 6:19 p.m. on Hwy. 92 near its intersection with Peters Road in north Fayette County.
Dunn was operating her 1995 Geo Tracker northbound on Hwy. 92 and was alone in the vehicle. For reasons as yet unknown, Dunn lost control of her vehicle, ran off the roadway and was ejected from the vehicle, Woodie said.
Dunn was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital where she later died from her injuries, said Woodie, adding that she was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Woodie said this is the second crash in Fayette County in less than 30 days where the decedents were not wearing their seatbelts, ejected from their vehicles and suffered fatal injuries in what was otherwise a survivable crash.
This is the fifth fatal motor vehicle crash to have occurred in unincorporated Fayette County in 2012, Woodie said.
According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) 62 percent of all persons who die in motor vehicle crashes in Georgia were not wearing safety belts.
More than 66 percent of all motor vehicle occupants in involved in motor vehicle crashes and wearing their seatbelts received no injuries their crashes. Woodie said the statistics are clear that seatbelts save lives. The sheriff’s office hopes that by providing this information that tragedies such as this can be avoided in future crashes, said Woodie.
