A Decatur woman was arrested Monday morning in south Fayette County on charges of hit and run after colliding with another vehicle on Sandy Creek Road.
Tamika C. Marcus, 23, of Decatur was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, reckless driving and failure to obey a stop sign.
Maj. Bryan Woodie said the crash occurred at approximately 7:47 a.m. on Sandy Creek Road at the intersection with Ellison Road in north Fayette County.
Woodie said Marcus was operating a 2010 Dodge Challenger northbound on Ellison Road while 49 year-old McDonough resident Diann D. Brown was driving a 2008 Infiniti G35 sedan southbound of Sandy Creek Road.
Marcus failed to stop at the stop sign on Ellison Road and drove into the passenger side of Brown’s Infiniti, Woodie said. After striking Brown’s vehicle, Marcus left the scene of the collision without stopping to check on Brown’s condition.
An off duty Fayette County deputy subsequently observed the Dodge Challenger being operated by Marcus on Ga. Highway 74 South, more than 10 miles from the collision scene, said Woodie. The deputy attempted to stop the Dodge Challenger but Marcus failed to stop initially. She did pull her vehicle over after driving an additional two miles. Marcus was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, Woodie said.
Brown was transported to the Piedmont Fayette Hospital by the Fayette County Fire Department with non-life threatening injuries.
Marcus was uninjured in the collision and was transported to the Fayette County Jail.
