In the wake of the armed robbery on a cart path near Concord Village Apartments a week ago, Peachtree City Police Chief H.C. “Skip” Clark addressed the City Council Thursday about patrolling the cart paths.
The matter was brought up by Councilman George Dienhart, who wondered if police were able to patrol the cart paths at night.
“We’re out there as much as we can,” Clark replied, noting that the city has 90 miles of golf cart paths. The chief also acknowledged that the department looks to focus at least some of its patrols on problem areas on the path system.
“There are areas we have identified and targeted for extra patrols,” Clark said. “Not to say too much, but there are only so many things we can do in that respect.”
The police force lacks the manpower to do more in terms of cart path patrols, Clark said.
The real solution, Clark said, is for path users to report incidents to the department.
“This is a partnership between us and the community,” Clark said. “Individuals who are out on the paths need to help us, call us, make us aware of things so we can react as best we can. And we try to be proactive as well as reactive.”
Police are still looking for the two assailants in the March 10 incident, which occurred around 8 p.m. on a path near Concord Village Apartments, formerly known as Harmony Village.
The robbers were described as “dark-skinned black males, approximately 5’10” to 6 feet tall, of proportionate weight and wearing all black.” The apartment complex is located off south Peachtree Parkway just south of the Crosstown Road intersection.
