A Newnan man pled guilty Monday to criminal charges stemming from his Aug. 2 arrest at the Peachtree City Walmart with a portable meth lab in his backpack.
Steve McLeroy, 40, was sentenced to three years in prison followed by seven years probation by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Fletcher Sams.
McLeroy was also fined $1,500 and ordered to undergo a drug abuse evaluation and follow all of the subsequent recommendations.
Sams asked McLeroy if the methamphetamine he manufactured was for sale or for his personal use. He told the court it was only for his use.
McLeroy pled guilty to criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamine.
According to court officials, McLeroy aroused the suspicion of store employees for perhaps shoplifting. He also had put in a shopping cart several household items known to be used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine.
