A blood drive is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 3, 1-6 p.m. at the Senoia United Methodist Church.
The church and the Senoia Optimist Club are co-sponsoring this event.
The American Red Cross announced this summer that supplies of blood and platelets were expected to be significantly lower than normal due to so many people traveling and a number of blood drives being cancelled as a result.
Members of the Senoia Optimist Club will offer blood donors their “famous” grilled cheese sandwiches along with a number of free coupons from local area businesses.
The Senoia United Methodist Church is in the historic district of Senoia and is located at 229 Bridge Street. It is at the intersection of Seavy and Bridge Streets. For those not familiar with the area, you can turn east at the downtown intersection of Main Street and Seavy Street, and go past the Veranda Bed & Breakfast towards the City Park or Highway 85. The church is on the right, only about 2 blocks east of Main Street.
Potential donors may either sign up at www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). In addition, Senoia Optimist Club member and blood drive coordinator Ellen Ingram may be contacted at 770-842-4533. Walk-ins are always welcome.
Donors at the Senoia blood drive are again asked to bring one or more non-perishable food items. The Optimist Club members will collect these items and make them available to a local food bank in order to help those around us who are in need.
It is important that donors give regularly so blood products of all types are available whenever and wherever they’re needed.
Most healthy people age 17 and older or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood. A single pint of blood can be safely donated every 56 days, and this important opportunity will allow the citizens in and around the Senoia area to once again rise to the need.
The blood drive is held at the Senoia United Methodist Church on a quarterly basis. To learn how you can help in this or another project sponsored by the Senoia Optimist Club, email the club at [email protected] or contact Club President Pat Veneziani at 706-329-2100.
