Charles Vernon Prouty of Fayetteville, Georgia died on November 25, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty years, Billie Womble Prouty. He is survived by one son, David Prouty, and his wife Suzanne of Cumming, two daughters, Joan and husband Keith Nichols of Marietta, and Karen and husband Omi Conklin of Atlanta; three grandsons, Jacob and Mathew Prouty and Oliver Conklin, one granddaughter, Victoria Nichols; one sister, Shirley McCraw of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and one niece, Cindy McCraw Dircks of Larchmont, New York. He was born on April 9, 1929, in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1982, he and his family moved to Atlanta where he was employed as Airport Program Manager by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He retired from the FAA in 1995, after a highly productive career processing federal grants in the tens of millions for airport planning, construction, and noise land acquisition, including projects at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. He provided technical guidance to FAA employees, and conducted seminars on noise land acquisition for airport managers from throughout the Southeastern United States. Charles worked 27 years with the federal government, including three years in the army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, and earned a civil engineering degree from the University of Mississippi where he also served as a student instructor. He later conducted extension courses in engineering for Ole Miss on the Millsaps College campus. In his early career as a structural engineer, he designed Interstate Highway bridges and interchanges. He worked for two years in the Philippines as an engineering consultant on the development of the Port of Manila. He was a member of Fayette Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He served two terms as president of the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City Golden K, and was honored by Kiwanis as a Hixson Fellow. He had a lifelong passion for choral music. While in the Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he organized and conducted a chorus which won the Third Army Area Soldier Sing Contest. For nine years, he was a proud member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus under the direction of the late Robert Shaw, and for several years, was a member of the Southern Crescent Chorale under the direction of Janice Folsom. Charles had great love for his family and for his Savior Jesus Christ. His was a life well lived. The family will receive guests at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, conducted by the Rev. Kimberly Holman Schmit and the Rev. Dr. Alex Moses.
