Tyrone to Repeat Millage Rate Hearings After State Recalculation

A change of just $1,204—barely enough to buy a new laptop—has set off a full round of public meetings, legal notices, and a special called session for the Town of Tyrone, after a state-level recalculation of the tax digest triggered mandatory do-overs in the millage rate process. Despite the extra work for town staff and council, the millage rate itself remains unchanged at 2.889 mills.

Town officials said the revised digest numbers were outside the town’s control but resulted in slightly more estimated revenue than previously advertised. Under Georgia law, even small shifts in revenue projections can require a fresh set of hearings before a rate can be finalized.

Revised notice of tax increase

According to the updated notice, the tentatively adopted millage rate will require a 1.92% property tax increase in 2025. That reflects the difference between the 2.889-mill rate and the rollback rate of 2.824 mills.

For a home valued at $525,000, the projected increase is about $13.52. For a non-homestead property valued at $425,000, the increase is roughly $11.05.

New hearing schedule

All hearings will take place at the Tyrone Municipal Complex, 950 Senoia Road:

– December 1, 2025 at 9 a.m.

– December 1, 2025 at 6 p.m.

– December 8, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.

Following the final hearing, the Mayor and Council will re-adopt the millage rate during a special called meeting on December 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to attend any of the scheduled sessions to share comments before the rate is formally approved.
