FAYETTEVILLE, GA (October 29, 2025) The Fayetteville Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has issued a Call for Artists and Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a professional muralist or team to design and install a new exterior mural at 119 South Glynn Street, a prominent location in the heart of downtown Fayetteville.
The new mural will replace Fayetteville’s first large-scale mural, painted 30 years ago by local artisans Patsy and Ed Gullett. That original mural captured the city’s historic buildings and Southern charm, becoming a community touchstone and symbol of civic pride for decades.
The new artwork will mark an exciting new chapter in the city’s story, coinciding with ongoing revitalization efforts and reflecting Fayetteville’s motto, “No Limits on Imagination.” Even as the city grows and welcomes new opportunities, this project remains rooted in honoring the history and heart of the community, celebrating the art, character, and creativity that make downtown Fayetteville truly unique.
The mural will be painted on the south wall of a historic DDA-owned building currently being renovated to become the upscale Rickshaw Thai restaurant (expanding from Alpharetta). It is adjacent to the Alleyway Improvement Project slated to open in Winter 2025. Together, these projects represent the City of Fayetteville’s continued investment in creating a vibrant, walkable downtown where art, culture, and community thrive.
Patsy Gullett will serve on the selection committee for the new mural, ensuring the next work continues the legacy she and her husband began.
“Ed and I were lucky enough to work on the first mural in Fayetteville,” Gullett said. “The purpose of that mural was to show some of the history in Fayetteville, and it quickly became a community project.”
“We had lots of friends help us paint, and anyone walking by was encouraged to pick up a brush and add a little of themselves to it,” Gullett continued. “It was very special for children. But now it’s time for a fresh new concept in Fayetteville, one that’s rooted in our history but looking toward the future. We’ve grown into a wonderful, creative community, and this new mural will celebrate that.”
“We are excited to usher in this new chapter for revitalizing downtown Fayetteville,” said Nancy Musselwhite, DDA Board Chair. “This mural is part of the DDA’s continuing efforts to preserve our historic buildings while bringing fresh, vibrant energy to our downtown area. It’s a wonderful opportunity to honor our past, celebrate our present, and inspire our future.”
The upcoming mural will be bold, creative, and dynamic in spirit, designed to serve as both a visual landmark and a “Fayetteville” branding opportunity, a welcoming, photo-friendly centerpiece that captures the city’s imagination and invites visitors to experience its evolving story.
With the Alleyway Project, the arrival of the new Rickshaw Thai restaurant and renovated building, the upcoming planned exterior improvements for the Holliday Dorsey Fife House, and the City’s economic and cultural investments including the new Lee Street Arts District, the DDA envisions this new mural as a vibrant expression of Fayetteville’s evolution. It is a way to honor where the City has been while showcasing the promise of where it’s headed.
