Classes at Sara Harp Minter Elementary are teaming up to practice their new skills and learn leadership lessons.
As part of the Leader in Me initiative, students from Eileen Corley’s 4th grade class partnered with Raney Walker’s kindergarten class to form a Buddy Class. Each month, the two classes will come together to learn, grow, and have fun through engaging activities.
For their first meeting, Chalk Day saw the kindergarteners practice writing their letters, numbers, and names with the support of their 4th grade buddies. They even worked on writing words and sentences! The older students served as encouraging mentors, helping their younger partners gain confidence.
Corley loved seeing the students dive into their new friendships.
“We believe that by having the 4th grade students mentor the younger ones, it will help to encourage friendship, and it will give the kindergarten students an older peer to look up to as they grow older,” she said. “Both classes had a wonderful experience building connections and are already looking forward to their next Buddy Class adventure!”
