Senoia Optimist Club to host free Fishing Derby for Kids

The Optimist Club of Senoia will host a free Fishing Derby for Kids on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Marimac Lakes Park in Senoia. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the derby is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The catch-and-release derby is for youth up to 15 years old. At least one parent / legal guardian must be present with each participating child. 

Prizes will be awarded for various categories, including the largest fish and the most fish caught. Participants can also receive other items as well. A limited amount of fishing equipment (including rods-and-reels and bait) will be available from the Senoia Club. 

Members of the local Optimist Club along with other volunteers will be on hand to register the participants, assist as judges, and to provide first aid if necessary. A free lunch will be provided.

Marimac Lakes Park in Senoia is located near the intersection of Pylant Street and Georgia Highway 16. The lake is adjacent to the local library. Parking is available at the lake park and at the north end of the library parking lot.

This year the Fishing Derby will also be a drop off point for two projects:

1. Donate children’s books to stock the Senoia Optimist Club’s Little Free Libraries.
2. Donate new bedding to support the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Charity (see their Facebook page).
