FAYETTEVILLE, GA (August 4, 2025) – The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Council will host a workshop Wednesday, August 21, 2025, focused on one of the most critical, but often overlooked, elements of organizational sustainability: succession planning.

The session, titled “The Importance of Succession Planning,” will be led by Mike Conaway, Executive Director of Healing Bridge.  Designed for nonprofit executives, board members, and staff leaders, the program will offer strategic insights and practical tools to ensure organizations are prepared for leadership transitions at any level.

“Succession planning isn’t just about replacing a leader—it’s about building a resilient, mission-driven organization that can thrive no matter who is at the helm,” said Conaway. “Without a plan, even the most successful nonprofits can lose momentum, struggle with continuity, and risk damaging stakeholder trust.”

This interactive presentation will explore the strategic value of succession planning, highlight common pitfalls organizations should avoid, and provide clear, actionable steps to begin building leadership continuity into your organization’s operations. Attendees will walk away with a deeper understanding of why succession planning is essential—not optional—for any nonprofit that seeks to achieve lasting impact.

Chris Madrid, Chair of the Fayette Chamber Non-Profit Council, emphasized the importance of the topic:

“Strong leadership transitions are a sign of a healthy organization. We’re excited to have Mike Conaway share his expertise with our community. His guidance will help nonprofits in Fayette County build the resilience and stability they need to carry their missions forward for years to come.”

Healing Bridge is the 2025 Presenting Sponsor of the Non-Profit Council.

This high-value session offers tools and techniques often reserved for consulting engagements – with an estimated consultant value of up to $10,000 for similar content delivered in a private workshop. Thanks to the Fayette Chamber’s commitment to supporting local nonprofits, the workshop is being offered as part of the Council’s Lunch and Learn programming at a significantly reduced cost to attendees.

This event is the third workshop offered in 2025 and is part of the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to equip local nonprofit leaders with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed. By addressing leadership succession proactively, organizations of all sizes can better serve their missions, retain public confidence, and adapt to change with strength and clarity. V
