Richard McCarl loved to tell an entertaining story. He had so many great tales about hanging around with local musicians in Florence, Alabama and the early days living in Peachtree City, GA, when it was still a new city.  He loved to make people laugh and lit up when he was able to add a quick joke to an ordinary situation. He passed away on May 22, 2025 at the age of 79, and his family will miss these moments with him.

Born August 4th, 1945 in northern Alabama, his family moved around the United States before settling back in Florence, home to the renowned Fame Studios. He loved to recount his experiences with the musicians of the legendary recording studio and was proud to tell you which songs were recorded in his hometown.

After graduating from Auburn University, he moved to Atlanta. He was hired by Garden Cities, a developer working on a new planned city south of Atlanta called Peachtree City. It was there he met Angie Spear, who would become his wife of 48 years until her passing in 2021.

In the early 1980s, Richard started his own business, McCarl Classic Homes and built beautiful houses around Peachtree City and Fayetteville. He later became an independent contractor and notably built a gorgeous home in the Vinings area designed by Jim Strickland (Historical Concepts) that was featured in an issue of Southern Living Magazine.

In recent years, Richard enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren as well as visiting the Senoia farm he purchased with Angie, where he kept horses and donkeys. He was a lifelong fan of motor sports and enjoyed watching and discussing his favorite NASCAR drivers and races.

Richard passed away due to complications from kidney disease. He was preceded in death by his wife Angie (Mary Marcia Spear) McCarl. He is survived by his three children Morgan Spear McCarl, son, and his wife Sunshine Lyons McCarl; Mollie McCarl Baldwin, daughter, and her husband Zach Baldwin; and son, Trevor Miles Standish McCarl; as well as grandchildren, Ethan Byrne Baldwin, Gavin Fox Baldwin, Alistair Walker McCarl and Dominic Lewis McCarl. Arrangements were provided by Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home of Marietta, Georgia.
