A major new development is underway in Fayette County, as construction begins on a state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility funded by the 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The new 42,000-square-foot building will replace the existing Kiwanis Park facility, marking a significant investment in community infrastructure and recreational services.

Designed with versatility and community engagement in mind, the facility will feature a wide range of amenities. These include indoor sports courts, a walking and running track, a fitness area, a community kitchen, and multiple meeting and multipurpose rooms. Additionally, the building will house offices, changing rooms, and essential support spaces to serve both recreational and administrative needs.

“We are excited to begin the development of the multi-use facility.  The new facility is designed to bring the community together, offering a wide range of activities—from fitness and sports to social events—all in one convenient location. It is more than just a building.  This facility will serve as a cornerstone for community engagement, fostering relationships and well-being in ways that truly matter,” Anita Godbee, Director said.

“The year-round aspect of the facility ensures that our residents always have a welcoming space to enjoy, whether they’re staying active, attending social gatherings, or simply connecting with friends or neighbors.  The positive impact this space will have on the community will be immeasurable,” she said.

Once completed, this will be the first facility of its kind in Fayette County—a central hub designed to support wellness, recreation, and community events all under one roof. The project reflects the county’s commitment to enhancing quality of life for residents and providing inclusive, modern spaces for all ages.
