Discover Your Roots returns to Sharpsburg on March 15, 2025

(SHARPSBURG)  The Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are partnering to help those interested in learning how to trace their family roots. Discover Your Roots, a free half-day genealogy seminar, will be held on March 15, 2025 at 157 Bob Smith Rd., Sharpsburg, GA. The event is free and open to the public.

What’s new this year? Sue VerHoef, Director of Oral History and Genealogy at the Atlanta History Center, will offer two workshops on preserving and sharing the history of your family. Genealogist Ruth Campbell will help you use artificial intelligence (AI) to take your skills further. President Tamu Taylor of the Metro Atlanta Chapter of AAHGS will present a fascinating case study to help you better analyze records and evaluate evidence. If you need to learn how to build out a tree using free online tools, genealogy trainer Maureen Keillor will take you through it step-by-step. And prepare to search in real-time, so you can see “super search engines” in action with Sicilian Family Tree’s Jennifer Petrino.

Participants of all ages are invited and will be able to attend three of the nine 50-minute classes offered, from 9:00 am to noon. Doors open at 8:00 for a light breakfast, networking, organization/vendor displays, same-day registration, and a brief welcome at 8:30 am.
