Friends Mentor Niesha Braggs has been named the winner of the 2023 Scott Mentorship Group’s Outstanding Mentor Award.
Braggs is an example of always looking for opportunities to invest in the lives of the next generation. Whether that be through substitute teaching, her job in the film industry, being a mom, or spending time with her mentee, she sees the value in making young people feel loved and important. That is what makes her an outstanding mentor.
The mission of the Friends Mentoring program is to establish and support one-on-one, long-term relationships between positive community role models and students to assist youth in dealing with the complexities of school, home life, and their community. School-based mentors meet weekly one-on-one with their students in a school-based setting. More than anything, mentoring is about building positive relationships and being someone who a student can talk to.
