Sandy Creek again honored with Computer Science Female Diversity Award

Sandy Creek High continues to emphasize access for all, and the school has been honored again with the College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women’s access to AP Computer Science Principles (CSP).

Sandy Creek is one of only 760 schools in the nation recognized with the achievement. Research shows that female students who take AP computer science are more likely to major in computer science in college compared to female students of similar background and academic preparation who didn’t take AP computer science courses. Through leadership in diversifying computer science education, schools like Sandy Creek are preparing female students for the high-paying, in-demand jobs of the future and giving them the opportunity to help solve some of society’s most challenging problems.

Computer science teacher Melissa Turnipseed is credited with the success of the program at Sandy Creek and for winning the award for the second-straight year.
