Some lucky Braelinn Elementary students got a lesson that learning can be fun, messy, and delicious at the same time. As part of their unit on the three states of matter (solid, liquid, gas), students in Jennifer Hamilton’s 2nd grade class were focusing on evaluating and communicating information about the properties of matter and changes that occur in objects. To put their lesson to the test, they went outdoors and combined Diet Coke and Mentos to make a fizzy eruption.

“They loved it. They ended up drinking the leftovers, and I think they enjoyed that part more than the actual experiment,” Hamilton joked.
