Edith D. Frye, age 99, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 19, 2018, at home in Fayetteville, Ga., surrounded by family. She was born January 17, 1919 in Franklin, Maine, the daughter of the late Clifton and Agnes Bunker Donnell.
She graduated from Franklin High School in 1935 as the salutatorian of her class. Edith was married to Norwell P. Frye on July 13, 1941 at the Franklin Baptist Church and was a member of Tent 11, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Having moved to South Carolina in 1963, she spent her working years at Columbia Christian School and in the library of Columbia Bible College. Her retirement was spent in Fayetteville, Georgia, where she resided with her son, Jed, and was a member of Lisbon Baptist Church.
She was an avid reader and life-long Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed puzzles, playing games, especially Scrabble, family gatherings, and taking walks.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband “Norm” in 1971 and by children and great- grandchildren whom she never met on earth. She is survived by four children, Roland, husband of Marjorie Choate Frye; John, husband of Vicki Brown Frye; Rachel Frye Wood, wife of P. Thomas Wood; D. Jed, husband of Cheryl France Frye; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Lisbon Baptist Church at 11 a.m. The interment will be in Maine at a later date.
