It is hardly a surprise, but East Coweta has punched its ticket for the GHSA state softball championships next week in Columbus.
The Indians defeated Hillgrove 11-6 and 7-3 according to the AAAAAAA bracket on the GHSA website and is set to play Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. The opponent was not determined as of Wednesday night.
The second-round sweep pushes East Coweta’s record to 32-0 on the season. Before giving up nine runs in the quarterfinal round, the team had allowed eight runs in its previous 12 games, including shutouts in the last five.
The only other local team to reach the second round, Landmark, lost two straight to Tattnall in the A classification.
