A Forest Park man was arrested in north Fayette County on Jan. 18 after a traffic stop revealed a van containing stolen merchandise.

Jentez Alford, 20, was charged with theft by receiving stolen merchandise, fleeing and eluding, failure to maintain lane and driving an unsafe vehicle, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Babb said a deputy saw a problem with the tail lights on a U-Haul van at approximately 9:45 p.m. and made a traffic stop near Georgia highways 314 and 279.

Three black males bailed out and ran while the man believed to be the driver was detained by the deputy, said Babb. The van contained items believed to have been stolen from a Kohl’s store along with a purse, credit cards and cash, Babb said.

The U-Haul van was stolen from an Atlanta address, said Babb. Babb said investigators are searching for the three men who fled.
