A reception for Chinese artist Guanyu Shi will be held as an “after hours” event Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at Peachtree City Library.
Fourteen of the artist’s paintings are being featured on the walls of Peachtree City Library in a solo show as part of the Library’s Art Initiative. The paintings will be on display through Aug. 31.
The Fayetteville resident studied at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in southern China in the 1960s, along with fellow artist Meihua Lu, who became his wife. Both have been working artists ever since. Meihua Lu’s work is scheduled to be shown at the library in 2017.
Many of the paintings on display are watercolor works which demonstrate Guanyu’s mastery of the art form in his smooth and incisive brush strokes along with his vibrant use of color. Also on display are several of his Chinese ink brush works which incorporate both conventional techniques and those he has developed in his own style over the years. Viewers will appreciate both the liveliness of his subjects and the beauty of his line and colors. Much of his artwork also incorporates another of his talents, calligraphy.
Mr. Guanyu was raised in Shanghai, where the Huangpu River runs by the metropolitan city. It was there that he cultivated a keen interest in water, and the river’s traffic.
