Providence UMC is offering free garden plots for this late summer/fall growing season.

The “Jubilee Garden” has 25 ten foot square plots which are surrounded by a newly installed chain link fence, with water provided to the garden.

Providence’s new senior pastor, the Rev. Herb Flanders explains, “We know everyone is a lot more conscious of the food they eat and are concerned about what they give their children. Getting a plot at the Jubilee Garden is a great way to teach children of all ages about what it takes to grow food.”

Eagle Scout Adam Secor of Troop 201 recently installed a higher, more restrictive fence due to deer and rabbits getting into plots last year.

Flanders adds, “I hated to hear that the deer and rabbits weren’t deterred by  the electric fence, so we think the chain  link will fix that! We are so appreciative of Adam working so hard to get the garden in great shape.”

Plots are first come, first served. Email Leslie Lunsford at llunsford@provumc.com to reserve a plot.
