Two local teams won their first-round series in impressive fashion and are moving on to the round of 16 in the GHSA state softball playoffs.
In AAAAAA, East Coweta swept Lakeside-DeKalb 8-0 and 15-1 Wednesday and will host Collins Hill in an Oct. 21 doubleheader. Sophomore Rachel Vaughan, pictured above, pitched a perfect game against Lakeside.
In AAAAA, Starr’s Mill played Northside-Columbus in a pair of very close games in the first round, losing 3-2 and winning 6-5, to force a third game which the Lady Panthers lost 5-2 to end their season.
In AAAA, Whitewater got a doubleheader sweep at home against Madison County, winning 5-0 and 3-2. The Lady Wildcats travel to Worth County for an Oct. 21 doubleheader.
The 16-team A Private bracket has been set. Landmark made the field as the 16th seed and will play at Brookstone Oct. 21.
