Rapper Rick Ross’s jail bond claims inflated, sheriff says
After rapper Rick Ross was jailed June 10 by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on misdemeanor marijuana charges after a traffic stop in north Fayette County and then later was released on bond, his social media accounts reported he had bonded out several other inmates as he left. Those claims by Ross turn out to be exaggerated, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.
While Ross indicated on social media sites that he had bailed several other fellow inmates out of jail, a claim that was widely reported by the media, Sheriff Babb said the bonding company Ross used got only Ross and the female in the car with him at the time of the arrest out of jail.
“There is no evidence showing that he got anyone out except the other occupant of the car who was arrested with him,” Babb said.
Babb said a deputy stopped the Bentley driven by 39-year-old Ross, whose name is William Leonard Roberts, on Ga. Highway 279 in north Fayette in relation to a window tint violation.
Babb said the deputy approached the vehicle and smelled what appeared to be marijuana and received permission to search the vehicle.
The deputy found a misdemeanor amount of marijuana, less than one ounce, in the vehicle, Babb said.
Ross was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and a window tint violation, Babb said.
Ross after the arrest listed his address as Laurel Road in Dazey, Florida.
The Mabach Music record label was created by Ross, according to biography.com.
Ross has reportedly purchased the estate on Hwy. 279 previously owned by boxing champ Evander Holyfield.
Well-known to many Fayette residents, the property is situated on 104.7 acres and includes an expansive home of 48,327 sq. ft. that features 12 bedrooms, 13 full baths, 8 half baths, 5 family rooms, a formal dining room that seats more than 100, a library and office, a 4,500 sq. ft. guest house, a 7-stall barn, an indoor bowling alley, handball court, lap pool, movie theater, boxing gym, recording studio and one of the largest private pools in the United States.
