Officers from the Peachtree City Police Department as well as some agents from the GBI showed up at the city’s first “Coffee With a Cop” event held at a Starbucks on March 23.

The program, which has been used in 47 states, is designed to build face-to-face relationships between officers and citizens. A police spokesman called the Peachtree City gathering a success and said more will be planned in the near future.

The national “Coffee With a Cop” program was brought to the attention of Peachtree City officials by McIntosh High School junior Sammie Christensen, who is also helping organize the local event. She saw a coffee klatch with officers while on vacation in Florida and thought it would be a great way for her peers to get to know officers back home.
