Oglethorpe sophomore forward Ciaira Hughes, a graduate of Fayette County High, was named to the D3hoops.com All-South Region Third Team today by sports information directors from the region. She was the only sophomore-or-younger student-athlete named to one of the three All-South teams. This is her first career All-Region accolade.

Hughes led the Southern Athletic Association in rebounding (11.3 per game), offensive rebounding (4.0 per game) and double-doubles (14). She was second in the league in scoring (17.0 points per game) and steals (2.3 per game), and third in field-goal shooting using NCAA qualification standards (49.7 percent) and in defensive rebounding (7.0 per game).

“Ciaira had a tremendous year for us,” said Head Coach Alex Richey. “I am proud of her for all that she was able to achieve this year. She knows that, if she continues to work hard and improve this offseason, she has the chance to be considered one of the all-time greats to ever wear an Oglethorpe jersey.”
