The Friends of the Peachtree City Library are pleased to announce that local author A. Bryant Betsill will sign copies of several of his books at the Peachtree City Library July 20, at 1 p.m. The public is cordially invited.

Bryant Betsill grew up in College Park, and graduated from North Clayton Senior High School in 1971. He attended Mercer University, where he studied theology, music and English while working in a maintenance office. Betsill later withdrew from Mercer just shy of graduating to return to his natural skill and craft of woodworking.

For nearly 30 years, Betsill practiced woodworking for jobs in residential and commercial construction, as well as movie, television, and theater set construction and prop making.

He and his wife Yvonne have three children whom they raised in Fayetteville and two grandchildren. Between writing and woodworking, he has been a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Betsill’s first book was the “Boy Scouts of America Venture Caving Book.” Subsequent books include the novel “Broken Union,”which narrates the life and love of a woman who married at a young age and then followed her husband into the Civil War, disguised as a soldier. Betsill drew inspiration for this historical fiction from his set construction work on the TNT movie, “Andersonville.”

“The Letters of Paul” relates a mystery that Dr. Jackie Macklin and her husband Harley must solve after they find the personal journal of Saint Paul. The discovery makes them targets of a rogue FBI agent’s chase. This novel draws from Betsill’s theological studies at Emory.

“The Ghost of Christmas Past” is a modern-day take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol with Dr. Archibald Hargrave taking the role of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge. In the tradition of the holiday classic, Hargrave reflects on his past and present life with video, email, and social media taking the place of spirits and time-travel visions.
